Ashok Kumar, MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, has received a petition from health food consumers urging him to fight a European directive.
The petition, which was collected by the Saltburn Health Foods shop, follows concern that the EU directive could restrict the range of herbal foods that could be sold.
Mr Kumar said: "I am aware many people feel herbal remedies and vitamin supplements make for a healthier life, and, if there is concern over the impact of these directives, it is clear we should scrutinise them to see that they do not impose artificial restrictions on consumer choice."
