ONE cultural icon becomes another in a stunning new exhibition at Middlesbrough Art Gallery.
Canadian Brian Jungen has fashioned a Native American-style mask from Nike trainers - a sculpture that forms the centrepiece of a display by three Canadian artists.
The exhibition, called Beachcombers, is a series of drawings, sculptures and installations by Jungen, Geoffrey Farmer and Myfanwy MacLeod.
The exhibition's name is taken from a popular TV sitcom of the 1970s.
A spokesman for the gallery said: "Shot in British Columbia, Beachcombers followed the life stories of a multi-cultural cast of characters who made their living salvaging runaway logs along the coastline.
"This group of artists are beachcombers of popular culture, taking inspiration from the regional and global culture that surrounds them."
This touring exhibition, which opened on Saturday, runs until January 31.
