CHRISTMAS shoppers are being encouraged to give their support to a hospice appeal.
St Teresa's Hospice, in Darlington, has set up this year's Giving to Life festive tree in the Cornmill Centre.
For a suggested donation of £2, shoppers can write a personal seasonal message on a bauble to hang on the tree.
In return, they will receive a Star of Bethlehem or candle flame lapel badge.
Hospice director Jane Bradshaw said: "This is a really nice way to remember a loved one or just to write a Christmas message to friends, family or the world.
"We are still looking for volunteers to help with this excellent initiative. If anyone can spare a couple of hours to spread a little festive cheer then we would be delighted to hear from them."
Work has now started on a full-time care unit at the building, in Woodlands Road.
The unit will offer 24-hour palliative and respite care for people who do not need hospital treatment, but are too ill to stay in their own homes.
The hospice can be contacted on (01325) 254321.
