AN injured motorcyclist is using his sick leave to study for new qualifications at his old college.
Marc Batson was so badly hurt in an accident last July that he has not been able to return to work as a technician at Tallent Engineering, in Newton Aycliffe.
The 28-year-old from Tow Law has been fitted with a metal cage and rods to hold together the shattered bones in his lower left leg.
He is filling his spare time by taking the electrical regulations course he was unable to attend while working shifts.
Mr Batson, who had studied at Bishop Auckland College six years ago, turned to his former tutor Robin Laycock for advice.
Mr Laycock said: "We are always very keen to support past students in their career development, and I was delighted to be able to help Marc following his accident.
"His willingness to learn is amazing and it is inspiring to see him making the most of his spare time."
