A SHOCKING 117 pupils have been excluded from a pioneering school in just two months.

Three pupils a day have been handed exclusion orders in a "zero tolerance" crackdown since All Saints College on Tyneside opened its doors in September.

The school, run by Newcastle City Council, Newcastle University and the Church of England, was set up to replace four failing schools.

Local MP Doug Henderson, said: "I will want to know what is happening in terms of the children's education and the reasons for the significant number of exclusions."

Pupils were excluded for a variety of rule breaches, including, foul and abusive language, smoking, aggression, refusal to conform to policies, and defiance of staff.

Six were excluded for five days, ten for five to ten days, four permanently and 84 for less than five days. Twenty-three pupils have been excluded more than once.

John Swainston, governors vice-chairman, said: "If you turn a blind eye to it, nothing will get done."
