THE distinctive style of Scandinavian glass products have gone on show in a colourful new display in the North-East.
Smooth Finnish, which opened last night at the National Glass Centre in Sunderland, reflects the bold but experimental designs of glass artists from Finland.
Described as "an international contemporary collection of thought provoking, unique and production glass", it features works by seven of Finland's leading designers.
Among the artists is internationally-renowned glass technician Harri Koskinen, who put together the display with the help of fellow Finn Markku Salo.
They both spoke about the inspirations behind their work at last night's viewing, staged at the nearby Sir Tom Cowie Lecture Theatre.
Koskinen's portfolio looks at "the contradictory aspects of glass and the exploitation of different manufacturing techniques". Salo's pieces are said to be more "bold, simplistic and experimental".
Some of their contemporaries have looked at environmental issues, as well as introducing an element of fun into the design process.
Smooth Finnish runs through to February 4 at the centre, in Liberty Way, Sunderland.
