THE 54-camera closed circuit TV network in York may be monitored live 24 hours a day. At present, it is monitored between 9am and 9pm with recordings made outside those hours. However, the city council is now considering making live monitoring a round-the-clock operation. "York is generally a peaceful and law-abiding city, but providing 24-seven monitoring will help ourselves and police respond more quickly to incidents," a council spokesman said.
SCHOOL COMPUTERS: MP for the Vale of York Anne McIntosh has congratulated schools for collecting vouchers under the Tesco Computers for Schools scheme. More than 24,000 schools are registered with the scheme, which has been running for 11 years. She will be attending a presentation in the Thirsk Tesco store, in Station Road, this Friday, at noon.
DICK WHITTINGTON: Tickets are on sale at Ripon Leisure Centre for this year's Christmas pantomime.
