A CAT which lost a leg in an accident with a car needs a home.
Crystal was found a month ago on the side of a road in Darlington, and was taken to Grange Veterinary Clinic, in Victoria Road.
The cat, which is believed to be about six, suffered a severely fractured front leg.
The Cats Protection League paid for an operation to try to save Crystal's leg, but the damage was too severe and it had to be amputated.
Later, vets needed to perform another operation when they found that Crystal had also suffered a hernia.
Staff at the clinic say Crystal has made a remarkable recovery from the operations and is in good spirits.
Veterinary nurse Deborah Pape said: "She is a very lucky cat, because her injuries were very bad and she almost died.
"But she seems fine, although she is finding it difficult to walk and is hobbling about, but she is purring and is quite content just to sit and be quiet.
"All she needs now is a loving home. She is fairly old for a cat so is not really very lively or inquisitive, she just needs someone to snuggle up to and feed and stroke her.
"An elderly owner who is at home a lot and is perhaps in need of a companion would make a good owner.
"Fingers crossed she will have a new home for Christmas."
Anyone wishing to give Crystal a home can contact the clinic on (01325) 465371.
