A RIDING centre is appealing for a breed of horse with a difference - a pantomime one.
The Riding for the Disabled Unicorn Centre, in Hemlington, Middlesbrough, is staging a Christmas pantomime, Robin Hood and His Jolly Jumpers, involving 19 horses and ponies, disabled young riders, volunteers and students.
But organisers have so far drawn a blank in their search for a panto horse costume.
Claire Pitt, from the centre, said: "We need a pantomime horse, otherwise the pantomime dame is not going to have her sidekick.''
Their plight is doubly acute because two German visitors to the centre, Ulrike Wenzel and Marie Schrober, have booked a trip to England to take part as the pantomime horse in the production, to be staged on Friday, January 3.
"If we could find a pantomime horse, we would take very good care of it,'' said Claire.
If they can't find a pantomime horse, volunteers have offered to make one if they can find a pattern.
The horse would not only feature in the panto, but would also take part in the Great North Run to raise funds for the centre.
