A REMOTE village in the Himalayas is to get a clean water system thanks to a village's generosity.
Residents and businesses in Weaverthorpe, near Malton, have raised £4,000 for the village of Landrung, a Ghurka village which is on the Modikhola River.
The money will pay for a water filter for the system.
Peter Clarke, the Weaverthorpe parish clerk, and a regular soldier for 40 years, who served in the Royal Corps of Signals, and then became an administration officer with the Royal Engineers, will travel to the village.
He will join a 14-strong group from the TA unit of the 73 Engineers Regiment, who are going to Nepal.
Mr Clarke said: "Everyone in Weaverthorpe and neighbouring Helperthorpe has been marvellous."
Mr Clark and his team are also taking out medical supplies for the people in the village.
