Chester lost 7-1 at Newcastle in the Women's FA Cup second round. Although a disappointing result for both managers and players, Chester's performance was most encouraging.
Newcastle took the lead but Chester, missing three first team players, equalised through Rachel Furness, one of the season's most influential players.
The second half saw Newcastle's experience and fitness overcome a team with five 14-year-olds, scoring six without reply.
Sarah Muir was outstanding, as was goalkeeper Rachel Young, but the FA Cup dream is over, for this season at least.
Scorers for Newcastle were Stacey Simpson (3), Kelly Ridley (2) and Lindsay McCubbin (2).
Newcastle now go on to face Rushden and Diamonds in round three.
Chester-le-Street are in action at Blyth in the League Cup this weekend.
