Following trials held in Hull, three Thirsk swimmers were selected to swim for the Yorkshire Schools at Sheffield this month in an Inter-Divisional competition.
Sixteen-year old Hannah Creelman, who attends Northallerton College, was selected to swim the 200 metres individual medley event, Gemma Bell aged 14, who attends Ryedale School was selected to swim the 100 metres butterfly, and Adam Wood, 13, who attends Thirsk School, was selected to swim the 100 metres freestyle.
All three did exceptionally well with Adam edging closer to breaking the minute barrier for the 100metres freestyle.
Gemma swam the butterfly in a new personal best time and Hannah managed a tremendous swim to make the finals but narrowly missed out on a medal position.
Hannah has just been formally notified by ESSA that as a result of this swim she is now under consideration to be selected for the England Schools Team to swim against Scotland, Ireland and Wales in the Speedo International in Dublin in March 2003.
All three swimmers are members of the Thirsk White Horse Swimming Club and are coached by Dave Smith.
