Division Two:
Guisb Town Res 2 v 0 Darlington SRM
ithe 17th minute Darlington SRM were awarded a penalty, but stand-in keeper John Kirkwood pulled off a brilliant save to deny the visitors. This seemed to spur the home side on and they pressed forward and three minutes before half time the pressure paid off when Paul Davies lobbed keeper Andy Price. The opening of the second half saw the visitors pressing but in the 79th minute the home side doubled their lead through Andrew Davies. Six minutes later the home side were reduced to ten men when Glen Marshall, who had earlier been cautioned, was sent off after receiving a second caution.
Whinney Bank 5 v 2 Billingham Wnd.
Whinney Banks got back on the winning League trail and now trail the Leaders by eight points, but with two goals in hand after a revenge win over Billingham Wanderers, who were the first team to beat Whinney Banks in the League back in September. Nathan Jameson gave Whinney Banks the lead but this was quickly cancelled out by Lee Thompson, Jameson regained the home sides lead in the 35th minute, before Andy Lockwood gave the home side a 3-1 half time lead. In the second half John Blamires made it 4-1, but Thompson with his second of the match and 8th of the season pulled it back to 4-2 before Jameson scored his hat-trick goal.
Durham County Trophy
SMG Redstripes 0 v 3 Brandon Stat.
Second division leaders Billingham SMG Redstripes entertained Brandon Station in the Durham County Trophy and the first half was very evenly contested with neither side able to break the deadlock and at half time the score remained at 0-0. In the second half the visitors started to get on top and scored three time with out reply to progress to the next round.
Spennymoor B&D 3 v 2 Wolviston R.
Wolviston Reserves switched their game to Spennymoor and the switch seemed to pay dividends when Ian Thompson went on a great run and finished off with a smart drive past Mark Bell in the Spennymoor goal. A few minutes later a great run and cross by James Wilson was met on the volley by Chris Murray to give Wolviston a comfortable 2-0 lead. In the second half the Teesside League side seemed well in control but with ten minutes remaining it all went pear shaped for them when two goals in the last ten minutes sent the game into golden goal extra time which Spennymoor won when diabolical defending saw Wolviston conceding a penalty from which Spennymoor progressed to the next round.
Teesside Arriva 3 v 1 Hartlepool Town
After 35 minutes Neil Hay opened the scoring for the Teesside League side, the only goal of the first half. In the second half the home side dominated the half and added a second in the 55th minute when Paul Proudlock received a long clearance from defence and slotted the ball past the Town keeper. Eight minutes later the visitors pulled a goal back when Proudlock lost the ball in midfield and a long ball over the defence found Birkbeck who slotted the ball past Stephen Jewson in the Arriva goal. Seventeen minutes later Hay scored his second of the game to give the Arriva a 3-1 lead, three minutes later a bad foul by Mark Peterson on Brendan Hampshire in the Town area, saw Peterson sent off, and a penalty awarded. Proudlock who normally dispatches the penalties in a clinical manner, handed the ball to Hay to secure his hat trick, but his kick was saved by the Town keeper. It is Arriva who are the League's only representatives who are guaranteed a place in the next round in December, as both Darlington Cleveland Bridge and Darlington Railway Athletic Reserves, whose matches at Sunderland and Seaham respectively were postponed, and will be played on Saturday.
North Riding County Cup
Rydale SC 1 v 2 Grangetown BC
Grangetown Boys Club travelled to Pickering to play Rydale Sports Club and they were shocked by the hosts who took a seventh minute lead, but the Boys Club fought their way back into the match and finally drew level through Ian McGowan. In the second half the Boys Club were well on top and not surprisingly they gained the lead through McGowan, they pushed forward again but good defending by Rydale kept the score line to a narrow 2-1 win for the Teesside League side.
Richmond Town 1 v 2 Acklam SW
In a tight match Acklam took the lead through Paul Jewitt, the only goal of the first half. In the second half Richmond dominated but against the run of play Acklam increased their lead when Craig Hallett scored from the penalty spot. Three minutes later Richmond were finally rewarded when Gavin Newall scored with a right foot shot to pull it back to 2-1. Constant pressure from Richmond seemed to paid dividends with eight minutes remaining when a penalty was awarded but Newall missed from the spot.
Bedale FC 4 v 2 Cayton Corinth's
Bedale took the lead through Steven Anderson but Cayton Corinthians drew level through Mark Griffiths. Wayne Gredziak gave Bedale the lead again and five minutes before half time Adam Bramley made it 3-1 and a foot into the next round. However, Nick David pulled it back to 3-2 and looked to be giving Bedale a run for their money, the home side pressed forward but were kept at bay by the Cayton keeper until the 70th minute when Bramley grabbed his second of the match.
Nunthorpe Ath 3 v 2 Bishopthorpe U
Nunthorpe Athletic dominated their match against Bishopthorpe United and took a 15th minute lead through Anthony Roberts, the only goal of the first half. In the second half Nunthorpe struck with two quick goals when Roberts made it 2-0 in the 50th minute, and through Dominic Ingram two minutes later. Nunthorpe were in cruise control now but with ten minutes remaining Joe Gardner pulled it back to 3-1 and with five minutes remaining Ian Kettlewell pulled it back to 3-2 from the penalty spot. The visitors then put Nunthorpe under pressure for the last five minutes looking for a goal to take the match into extra time but the Teesside League side withstood the pressure and will play in the next round in January 2002.
Teesside Ath 1 v 5 Redcar Town
This first ever meeting of these teams saw the home side take a tenth minute lead through Kirk Forsyth who fired home from 18 yards. But that was the last good thing that happened for Teesside Athletic as Jamie Martin was sent off after handling the ball on the goal line, the resulting penalty was slotted home to make it 1-1, with Martin having been sent off. The visitors then took a 3-1 half time lead with Glen Dolan scoring twice for Redcar Town. In the second half the visitors dominated and added two more to secure a place in the next round after a 5-1 win.
Carlin How 6 v 1 Thornaby YC
The hosts took the lead when Kevin Hampton's in swinging corner was adjudged to have crossed the Thornaby goal line. Pressure from the Youth Club paid dividends when Martin Oakley was brought down in the box by Jason Couse and Oakley made it all square from the penalty spot. This seemed to rally Carlin How and in the 26th minute Jason Draper was brought down just inside the Thornaby penalty area resulting in a penalty, from which Nicky Ward gave Carlin How a narrow 2-1 half time lead. A minute into the second half a back pass to the Youth Club keeper Craig Longstaff was misjudged by the keeper and Ward slid in to make it 3-1 with his second of the match. The visitors heads seemed to drop after this mistake and on the hour Ward chipped the ball over the defence for Jason Draper to run onto and he made it 4-1. Fifteen minutes later Ward was again instrumental in the build up for Simon Anderson to stretch at the back post to make it 5-1, a minutes later another cross from Ward was misjudged by a defender and Draper was on hand to notched his second of the match and secure a place in the next round.
