SERIOUS disruption will be caused a Coverdale village unless an alternative route is found to remove felled timber, a parish council has warned.
Burton-cum-Walden Parish Council fears lorries carrying 30 tonnes of tree trunks will wreak havoc on West Burton's narrow roads. The chairman, Coun John Piper, told upper Wensleydale Parish Forum that pinch-points in the narrow lanes would be unable to cope with the volume of heavy traffic.
Adrian Thornton-Berry, owner of 170 acres of conifers at Walden, said extensive discussions had been held with the highways authority and would continue, involving residents and the parish council.
"We haven't yet sold one stick of timber and we can't do that until we agree work practices," he told the meeting at West Burton village hall on Wednesday.
