A Durham billiards team visited the Lindum Club in Gateshead to play a team selected from local league players and suffered a very heavy defeat. The Durham team found the home players vastly more skilful and only managed to take one point from the six matches played. Each match lasted one hour with the games played on the three tables available.
Durham's only point came when Heppell Hodgson beat Vera Selby by 191-146, although Tom Ward came very close, only losing in the last two minutes to Alan Glen by 179-166. The other results were all fairly comfortable wins for the home team with the scores (Gateshead names first) Ron Whitton beat Charlie Donaghy 232-145; Tony James beat Jim Evans 234-170; Brian Hardy beat Ken Robinson 141-99 and Brian Thompson beat Lawrence Jones 211-143. These scores made an accumulative total victory for Gateshead by 1143 points against 914 points.
