PROMISING racing driver Jonathan Potts has eyes on a prestigious title, writes PaulL Fraser.
The 18-year-old, who raced in the BRDC Single Seater Championship in the summer, has now turned his attentions to the five race winter series - and he is looking good for the crown.
If Potts succeeds in both of the final two races in the Formula Ford championship he will finish ahead of the rest and win a free test drive with a Sports 2000 race car.
The Teesside University student, who claimed four thirds in 11 races during the summer campaign, has already claimed first and second placings in the latest competition.
In the opening race at Rockingham, Potts was leading until he crashed out. But he bounced back from that in emphatic style.
And his delighted father and manager, Gary Potts, said: "At Silverstone he had two races. In the first he claimed the fastest lap and finished first.
"Then in the second race, he earned pole position off the grid and finished second. He did well."
Potts, from Low Pittington, Co. Durham, is now focusing on pushing to become No 1 in his Van Diemen RF97 car.
Gary said: "He has got a really good chance because he has been racing well. He had a good summer but he is hoping to push for the top this time."
