THE gloss was this week taken off Quakers' excellent FA Cup win at Wrexham with the news that star goalkeeper Andy Collett is likely to be missing for several weeks with a broken rib.
Collett missed three months last season with damaged ribs, and took a knock on the opening day of this season at Cambridge. A further blow at Wrexham left the keeper facing a long spell on the sidelines.
Caretaker manager Mick Tait was hopeful of bringing a goalkeeper on loan to Feethams this week, for only Chris Porter is available for tomorrow's trip to Shrewsbury Town.
Tait was also said to be close to bringing in a striker on loan to ease the burden on Barry Conlon, whose seventh goal of the season at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday set the Quakers on their way to victory in the FA Cup first round.
Darlington player-coach Craig Liddle added a second with 20 minutes to go and Quakers, with former Wrexham favourite Neil Wainwright and young defender Matthew Clarke outstanding, ran out comfortable 2-0 victors against a strong Welsh outfit.
The second round draw was kind, offering Quakers a home tie with non-League Stevenage Borough on December 7.
