YOUNGSTERS are celebrating a clean bill of health after winning an award.
St Hild's College CE Aided Primary School, in Gilesgate, was presented with a Healthy Schools Award for promoting good practices among pupils.
The award followed an audit, in which the school looked at the health education it was providing and how it could be improved.
With the help of Wendy Bagnell, who represents the Government awards scheme locally, the school drafted an action plan and was presented with its Healthy Schools certificate after introducing several new initiatives.
Headteacher Jane Katsambis said: "We had a drugs awareness session earlier this month where we invited people from other schools and had members of the drugs scheme and some high profile police officers.
"We are also doing things like sex and relationships in school and giving children water bottles.
"We are trying to approach local supermarkets so that we can order things like apples and raisins from the Internet so that children can have healthy snacks."
