A NEW community centre could be built in Darlington.
Members of the Darlington Bangladeshi Welfare Association are celebrating after receiving a grant from the National Lottery's Awards for All programme.
The group plans to use the £4,890 award to carry out a feasibility study.
It wants to find out if there is a need for a community centre in the Northgate area of Darlington that could become a focal point for local people with Bangladeshi links.
Group spokesman Matim Rahman said: "We are very pleased to have received this award. For a group like ours this is a large sum of money and it will allow us to help many local people.
"We have worked very hard to develop this project and we would like to thank Darlington Borough Council for their support in helping us write the application."
