POLICE were called to two soccer fans brawling over goalkeeper Gordon Banks' famous 1970 World Cup save during a speech by the England goalkeeping legend.
Banks had just finished giving a speech at a gala dinner when violence broke out.
Trouble started at the end of the speech when a fan jumped up and said that his save against Brazil was the greatest he had ever seen.
Another fan took exception and ordered him to shut up and sit down.
The row spilled over into the toilets in a luxury suite at Newcastle United's St James's Park where a fight broke out.
Police were called and one man was arrested and later cautioned. Banks had been speaking at non-league Whitley Bay FC's gala dinner on Tuesday.
The amateur club had hired a suite at the Toon ground to honour their players after winning the FA Vase in May.
Whitley Bay secretary Derek Breakwell said: "This lad was a bit excited and stood up to say the save Banks made against Brazil was the greatest he had ever seen. Another bloke told him to sit down and shut up and that spilled over later in the toilets."
