FOUR Young Ambassadors of Sport in east Cleveland were presented with awards by Olympic athlete Allison Curbishley last week.
Young Ambassador for Sport rewards talented youngsters with a year's free access to training facilities, including the range of health and fitness suites swimming pools and sports halls.
The winners were:
* Paul Smith, of Marske, a 14-year-old ice hockey player who is one of eight children to attend the English Ice Hockey Association Under 16 School of Excellence and the England under 16 ice hockey trials.
* Lee Hunter, of Redcar, a disabled athlete who is a 100m and 200m runner and who has won two gold medals in the under 19-year-old Disability Sport England Championships and two silver medals at the (Cerebral Palsy) National Championships.
* Kelly-Jo Robson from Brotton is a gymnast who has reached the National Finals for four years in succession.
* Danielle Coonan, 14, from Loftus, a swimmer who has won six events in the Cleveland County Championships and Scottish National Champion in 50m backstroke and silver medalist in the 100m backstroke.
Helping to present awards was Tony Hanson, TVL Teesside Mohawks basketball coach, British karate bronze medalist Vicky Tuffs, from Grangetown, who was the first recipient of the Young Ambassador for Sport Award, and the Mayor of Redcar and Cleveland Eric Jackson.
