A CITY'S car parking charges will rise for the first time in almost four years from Sunday.
Fees will increase by 10p an hour at four of Sunderland City Council's 24 on and off-street car parks.
Prices at the Prince Street and South Street car parks will also rise from £260 to £290 per quarter.
Charges at the city's other 18 car parks will remain unchanged when the new pricing structure takes effect.
The affected car parking areas are: St Mary's car park, where charges will rise from 70p to 80p per hour and from £7 to £8 a day; Tavistock Place multi-storey car park and Tatham Street, where fees will rise from 20p to 30p an hour; and Laura Street, where the charge will be 60p instead of 50p an hour.
