A CHRISTMAS tree installed in a shopping centre will evoke particularly poignant memories this year.
Many of the baubles festooning the boughs of the tree in Middlesbrough's Cleveland Centre, will be in memory of someone who will be missed this Yuletide.
The Tree of Life appeal, organised by Teesside Hospice, is for remembering absent loved ones and friends, and the baubles will celebrate the life of a loved one.
The tree and baubles are sponsored by engineering firm Aker Kvaerner and Middlesbrough Football Club, which has nominated the hospice as its charity.
Jan Marron, from the hospice, said baubles could also be for someone who is away from home or living away this Christmas.
She said: "Whatever your reason, this most symbolic of acts will not only allow you to mark this special occasion but it will once again contribute to the worthwhile work of your local hospice.
"There is no set charge for a bauble, but any donation is gratefully received. The Tree of Life appeal makes a significant contribution towards the cost of Teesside Hospice continuing its care free of charge to the local community.''
