BUSINESSES across the region are set to benefit from an overhaul of the support system established to help them.
In the first project of its kind in the country, regional development agency One NorthEast has set up a support network with a single point of contact for firms seeking guidance and support.
From there they will be put in touch with the organisation best able to deal with the inquiry.
There are 250 support organisations for business in the region, overseeing 600 separate schemes using public and European funding.
One NorthEast and its partners have conducted a detailed review of the network, recognising it was failing to deliver the assistance required to help customers.
Alistair Arkley, One NorthEast board member, said: "We have identified the problems and put forward the principles we believe will solve them.
"Businesses will have a simple point of access to find the help they need. I don't believe anyone underestimates the scale and complexity of the task ahead of us.
"Every individual will be given access to all the support services available and will receive a tailor-made package of help."
