Under-12s: Blyth Town 5 v 0 Birtley Town
This game was a big test for Birtley after a bad defeat last week from SAFC. The Birtley girls were up for it and played very well. Blyth found the Birtley goalkeeper Jessica Wilson in fine form, the girl was top class. Blyth had captain Rachel Wilson in top form again, she is not letting any forward past her. Blyth scored first through Chloe Tomlinson, then Claire Pitt added two more with further goals coming from Laura Fawcus and Danielle Cooper. The Birtley girls were a credit to their parents and to their club.
Challenge Cup
SAFC 24/7 Girls 16 v 0 Newcastle
The first quarter was tight although SAFC did score three goals. In the second quarter Sunderland were in the driving seat and scored six more. Newcastle tried to get back into the game but with four goals in the third quarter and another three in the final quarter it proved too much for them. Players of the match were Holly Taylor and Samantha Campion. Scorers for SAFC were Holly Taylor (4), Donna Bolton (3), Jade Clarke (3), Jessica Clarke (2), Samantha Sweeney (2), Lauren Ramshaw and Abby Holmes.
Norton & Stockton Anc. 3 v 4 Boldon
Boldon were quick off the mark and scored within the first five minutes and followed this with another two strikes in the first quarter. Still going strong, Boldon pushed forward and caused an own goal. NASA returned the pressure and set the pace. In the third quarter both teams pressed forward but it was NASA who added to their tally, scoring twice. This led to an exciting finish but time ran out making final score 4-3 to Boldon. Scorers for Boldon were Sophie Williams, Sarah Bowey and player of the match Stacey Bonney (2). Scorers for NASA were Phillipa Thomas and player of the match Emily Wilson. Norton & Stockton were playing in new strips which were sponsored by Kal Engineering.
Cup - Under-14s
St. Francis 0 v 4 Boldon
Boldon scored twice within the first five minutes by catching St. Francis cold. A well organised Boldon side saw Jane Riddell perform brilliantly in defence. St. Francis pressed but were unable to break through. Boldon added two more goals in an entertaining game of football. Scorers were Lauren Lang, Sarah Weaver, Sheryl Appleby, (one own goal). Players of the match were Helen McCamley and Jane Riddell.
Marton 3 v 2 Blyth
Blyth started strong but Marton scored through Amy Morrison. The match was played at a good tempo with good football played by both teams. Blyth soon equalised through Helen McManus. Blyth then piled on the pressure and scored through an own goal after a deflection and took the lead. Marton did not give up and got a deserved equaliser through Abby Lyle with another excellent shot. In the second half there were chances for both sides before Amy Morrsion scored her second goal of the game and consequently the winner for Marton. Marton's player of the match was Scarlett Crowe and for Blyth it was Helen McManus.
Challenge Cup - Under-18s
Boldon 2 v 8 Newcastle Juniors
This game was switched to Newcastle as Boldon's pitch was unplayable due to heavy rain. Two late injuries left Boldon under strength from the start but the nine girls combined well from the outset. For the first 20 minutes Newcastle dominated but Boldon showed true grit and were not outplayed half time saw the score level at 2-2. Boldon would have been well ahead early in the second half had it not been for the disallowance of two goals. Boldon continued to press and were always ahead until two further injuries occured and reduced the side to seven players. Newcastle had now found room to break through and ran in a further six goals. At one point the game had to be temporarily suspended as Boldon sustained another injury which took them down to six players, but the player gamely retook her place in the side but by this time the match was beyond recovery. Players of the match were Nicola Taylor for Boldon and Rachel Coleman for Newcastle.
Under-13s: North Shields 0 v 11 Blyth Town.
