Not for the first time this Autumn the weather threatened to wreak havoc with rowing races in the north of England when prolonged rainfall raised the waters of the River Ouse to a level which caused the postponement of the York Small Boats Head of the River Race.
Fortunately for the competitors the river level dropped sufficiently by the following weekend for the event to take place.
Tees Rowing Club sent a small contingent and came away rewarded with the prize for fastest Men's Veteran C Coxed Four. The winning crew was Richard Harandon, Dick Wilkinson, Tor Taverner, Dilwyn Jones and cox Carole Jones. This combination have been consistent winners in veteran events for the club over a number of seasons and this was a fitting conclusion to their participation in this age group. Next year they will move up into Veteran D in which crews must have an average age of no less than 50.
The Tees Club had a share in another trophy at York when Meg Brophy and Gill Selby rowed with a York City Women's Four and helped them to win their event.
