Durham County Under-16 Girls' are celebrating after receiving a £5000 grant from the National Lottery Awards for All programme.
This will enable the further development of excellence in the emerging sport of girls' rugby and secure the future of Durham's squad. The funds will be used for essential equipment, transport, administration costs and, more importantly, to secure high quality coaching and venues for the team.
Anita Blackburn, Durham County Girls' Secretary said: "We are delighted that our application was successful. It is a real boost for the team and all associated with girls' rugby. Girls' rugby is here to stay and this award will allow us to promote the sport and further develop the skills of the talented youngsters who have been selected to represent their county."
