Mowden's thirds fielded a weak side due to the unavailability of players but made a valiant effort against a much bigger and stronger Blaydon side. Twelve minutes into the game Mowden were penalised for offside 5m from their line.
Blaydon's flanker to a quick tap and burst over to score a converted try. Some good defensive work held Blaydon back but just before half time Mowden gave away a kickable penalty.
At the restart veteran player Owen Jackson replaced Dave Liddle in the back row, who sustained an ankle injury. DMP started the game in a determined mood which saw Chris Grieves sprint from the half way line, but was tackled by Blaydon's fullback just short of their tryline. Five minutes later saw a similar burst of speed from Steve Edwardson who was supported by Andrew Rhoades, and with a well time pass allowed Rhoades to put Mowden's only points of the afternoon on the scoreboard. Blaydon ran in another converted try and kicked two penalties to make the final score Blaydon 23, DMP 5.
