The Young Sportswinners Awards at the Dolphin Centre last week were dominated by members of Darlington Harriers Athletics Club
Theo Panayi was awarded the Young Sportswinner accolade and Roy Johnson won the Services to Coaching trophy.
Theo has been a keen member of the club for a number of years and has rarely missed a training session no matter what the weather. He has competed at club, regional and national events and also gives his time up to help organise events while the only time he is away from the club is when his beloved Newcastle United are playing at home.
Roy has been responsible for developing a thriving junior athlete section in the club as he and his fellow coaches have nurtured a group of young athletes from the ages of 8-11 years into the stars of the future. They compete at indoor and outdoor events around the area and regularly bring home a handful of medals. Roy is also an active athletics official going around the country to help put on and control events where athletes of all abilities compete.
The club is very proud of the achievements of Theo and Roy and wish them the very best of luck for the future.
l If you would like to be part of Darlington Harriers, they train at Eastbourne Stadium on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6.15pm and also on Saturdays and Sundays when there is no competition. For further details please contact on Robin Rutherford (01325) 252834.
