THE plight of a Darlington teenager who suffers from a rare disease has inspired a golf club to raise money to help find a cure.
Crohn's Disease sufferer Rebecca Parkin, 14, has raised hundreds of pounds each year for research into the condition since being diagnosed at the age of 11.
Now her efforts have been boosted by members of Barnard Castle Golf Club, who will present her with a cheque for £1,296 next month.
The money, along with £1,000 raised by the Carmel Comprehensive School pupil and her family, will be given to the organisation Circa, which is trying to find a cure for the stomach disorder.
Rebecca's father, John, 43, of Arncliffe Grove, said the golf club members heard about Rebecca after she received an award earlier this year for her determination and bravery.
He said: "We are very proud of her. The Crohn's can flare up at any time but she's so resilient and very chirpy. She just decided she wanted to help other kids."
