EMPLOYERS from across the region are to be guided on recruiting disabled staff at a conference on Tuesday.
The all-day event at Durham County Cricket Club's Riverside Stadium, Chester-le-Street, has been organised by Jobcentre Plus and aims to show organisations the benefits of employing disabled workers.
The conference coincides with European Day of the Disabled and there will be a number of speakers, such as a representative from Transco who will talk about how the gas company has recruited disabled people.
Deputy regional director of Jobcentre Plus North-East, Diane Hedley, will show how it can make sound business sense to employ people with disabilities and a law firm representative will be explaining disabled discrimination law.
The event will conclude with awards to companies, including Durham County Cricket Club, which have demonstrated their commitment to providing facilities and opportunities for people with disabilities.
For more information about the event, call Bernie Mawson, business development manager at Jobcentre Plus, on 0191-220 8988.
