A COUPLE who boosted the fortunes of a village public house are leaving for a new home a few hundred yards away - in a house converted from a one-time rival pub.
Katherine Furmidge, departing landlady of the Crown Inn, at Grewelthorpe, near Ripon, says she plans to switch to the opposite side of the bar to become a customer at her old pub.
But she has pledged a self-imposed exile from the Crown "for a few months" until the new tenants have had time to settle in.
"I don't want it to look as if I will there looking over their shoulders and want to give them time to settle in without me on the other side of the bar," she said.
Meanwhile, work to turn the former Hackfall pub into a home for Mrs Furmidge and her partner, Steve Kennedy, along with three children, Tom, six, Lawrence, four, and Ghislaine, 18 months, are well under way.
Before Mrs Furmidge started running the Crown five years ago, the Hackfall had been its biggest rival
