TRIBUTES have been paid to a Middlesbrough councillor and police authority member who died recently after a long illness.
Councillor Abdul Hamid was highly thought of in his Westbourne ward, Cleveland Police Authority's chairman, Councillor Ken Walker, said.
"Abdul Hamid was a valued colleague on both the police authority and Middlesbrough Council, and also a good friend," said Coun Walker.
"I know that he had tremendous respect amongst all members of the police authority and, of course, his community.
"His knowledge and expertise proved very valuable in providing the police authority with a greater understanding of the issues and concerns within the ethnic minority community."
Coun Hamid had been a member of the police authority since 1999
