Teesside enjoyed and endured the mixed fortunes of the current volatile business climate yesterday.
Industry was buoyed with investment announcements and the opening of a multi-million pound pharmaceutical plant.
But the mood was soured by the news that 70 jobs were to go at Wilton.
Tees and Hartlepool Port Authority led the way with the announcement that potentially 200 jobs would be created by the development of a new cargo terminal at Teesport.
And Lundbeck Pharmaceutical unveiled its £50m plant, which makes the key product for a new antidepressant drug.
DuPontSA took the gloss off the day when it said that at the end of this year it would be closing one of its sites near Redcar, which manufactures polyester resin for soft drinks firms to turn into pop bottles.
