UNSCRUPULOUS salesmen could be targeting vulnerable people in Derwentside, say police.
Police are investigating after someone claiming to be working for Crime Prevention telephoned an elderly woman in Clowes Walk, East Stanley. The caller offered the homeowner discount vouchers up to £500 for security equipment.
Sgt David Scott of Derwentside Police community safety team said: "The police do not ask for money for crime prevention advice. People should be wary that anyone offering an incentive to purchase crime prevention advice or security equipment will be working for a private firm."
