DAIRY worker Paul Malton proved there is no pain without gain by having a sponsored all-over body wax at his local pub.
The 31-year-old undertook the stunt at the Durham Ox, in Northallerton, yesterday, cheered on by friends and regulars.
His hour-long ordeal was in aid of Cancer Research UK, a charity close to his heart.
Paul's father is suffering from prostate cancer and he wanted to raise money to help the charity, which funds vital research into treatments for the disease.
And it seems Paul, who works at Express Dairies, in Northallerton, is a stickler for punishment, because he had a body wax to raise money for BBC Children in Need three years ago.
He said: "I have been drinking a fair amount of Jack Daniels to try to dull the pain, but it still really hurt.
"My father is dying from cancer so I did it for him and I have managed to raise more than £700 in sponsorship which I'm really pleased with.
"All my friends and regulars have been cheering me on but, despite the support, it still hurt like mad."
Rachel Smith, Cancer Research UK's Northallerton shop manager, said: "Paul is such a selfless man, and as actions speak louder than words, I would like to thank him for, yet again, putting himself through an all-over body wax.
"It could take the volunteering team and myself a lot longer to raise the amount Paul could in just an hour."
