A PROJECT aimed at encouraging more interaction between older members of the community and children has come to fruition with the completion of a mural.
The work, created through a partnership between Groundwork West Durham, Haven House, Leadgate Junior School and Derwentside District Council, will be unveiled on Wednesday.
Children from Leadgate worked on the design and completed the mural with the help of residents from Haven House, reusing tiles brought from the home.
It was aimed at bringing down the barriers of age, prejudice, ignorance on both sides of the age divide.
Stephen McDonald of Groundwork West Durham said: "The project has been a great success in tackling negative views that both groups have of each other.
"At the same time, it has seen the creation of a beautiful piece of artwork that brightens up the whole front of the building."
