A BISHOP has praised fundraisers who realised their £760,000 target in seven months.
In April, Holy Trinity Church, North Ormesby, Middlesbrough, launched an appeal to build a community centre.
Seven months later, the first turf is to be cut, ready for work to begin on the site.
The Right Reverend Robert Ladds, Bishop of Whitby, said the appeal had been realised in a spirit of co-operation and brought together many groups within the community.
To emphasise the diversity of the community, he will be joined by Acharya Prem Sharma, a Hindu priest, in blessing the project, on Wednesday.
Vicar Graham Usher said: "Our fundraising committee, residents and supporters have done a magnificent job in realising this sum in one of the shortest periods I have ever experienced.''
