A CHURCH has celebrated its 877th anniversary with the help of an Army regiment.
The inaugural service at St Andrew's Church, Haughton-le-Skerne, near Darlington, took place in 1125, although no one knows the precise date of the event.
For years, the congregation has marked the church's anniversary on the day set aside for its name-sake, St Andrew's.
On Sunday, members of the Durham and Yorkshire branch of the Scots Guards, celebrating their 360th anniversary, joined the church's congregation for a service of thanksgiving.
The regiment visited the church last year when David Bryan, honorary chaplain, was inducted as rector by the Right Reverend Michael Turnbull, Bishop of Durham.
The service included an act of remembrance for fallen Scots Guards played by piper Mel Clement and church organist Rael Wright.
Richmond Town Pipes and Drums performed at last weekend's celebrations.
