YOUNG performers are preparing for their first taste of the stage.
Durham Chorister School's pre-prep department is putting the final touches to its Nativity play which will be performed this week.
Older pupils are preparing for the schedule of Durham Cathedral services, including several on Christmas Day.
But first the younger pupils are taking centre stage in a specially-written play involving all 60 children in the year group.
The Bossy King, by Niki Davies, is the story of a conceited ruler, played by Henry Saunders, who finds humility when he meets Jesus.
Cast and chorus were put through their paces yesterday before the curtain goes up on the opening performance today, in the cathedral's Chapter House.
The show is repeated tomorrow and on Thursday for parents with a retiring collection for the Starlight Children's Foundation, which helps brighten the lives of seriously ill youngsters.
