FOUR people have been jailed after being convicted in connection with a bar-room brawl which ended in the death of a mother of five.
Teresa Mennell, 59, of Scarborough, died from a single blow inflicted by Colin Mattinson, in February, while drinking at the Metropole in High Street, Gateshead.
Mattinson, 21, of Prince Consort Road, Gateshead, who pleaded guilty to manslaughter at Newcastle Crown Court, was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in jail.
His mother, Joyce Grieves, 41, of the same address, was sentenced to 12 months after admitting violent disorder.
Lisa Craig, 19, of Mill Lane, Hebburn, was sentenced to nine months for violent disorder, while Nicholas Grieves, of Bensham Road, Gateshead, was jailed for 15 months for the same offence. Both admitted the charges.
Mrs Mennell's son, Colin Fraser, 40, of Scarborough, was sentenced to nine months imprisonment, suspended for two years, after pleading guilty to violent disorder.
