AN investigation is under way after a bomb disposal team blew up a suspect package which turned out to be military equipment.

The security scare happened on Sunday outside the Territorial Army base in North Tyneside.

Bomb experts were called in to destroy the package with a controlled explosion.

They later discovered it was military equipment which Army chiefs say had probably been left by mistake.
