POLICE launched a fresh appeal for witnesses yesterday after an elderly pedestrian died following a road accident.
Nelly Hynes, 77, of Crofton Road, South Shields, collided with an unknown vehicle at the junction between Wescott Road and Eggerton Road, in the town, near South Tyneside General Hospital, on Monday, at 9.40am.
The vehicle involved apparently left the scene immediately. The injured woman was taken to hospital, but died later that day.
The victim was wearing a beige and brown mac, a blue cardigan, green skirt and blue Ellesse trainers.
