A TRAINING scheme backed with European funding is being held in a shopping centre.
Bishop Auckland College and Wear Valley District Council have teamed up to offer an innovative training facility in Bishop Auckland's Newgate Centre.
The Bishop Auckland Learning Centre will offer free training for up to 48 people aged 16 to 24.
The centre, managed by the college and On-net-training and supported by the European Social Fund, is running NVQ level two courses in call handling operations.
Maureen Stanton, centre manager, said: "This learning facility is unique to the region.
"It has been modelled on the most advanced contact centres in Britain to give students the experience of working in a well equipped, spacious, colourful and comfortably furnished administrative environment.
"The training we offer is on a part-time flexible basis and the modules studied will provide the students with all the skills they need to get a job in any call centre or customer- orientated role."
