In the Villa real Cup quarter final Billingham Wanderers lost 3-2 at home to Owton Manor.
Billingham opened in fine style taking the lead after five minutes courtesy of Mark Steel and it was only the brilliance of Manor's keeper, Acker Harrison, which prevented them going further ahead. Then after 20 minutes the Manor levelled when Billy Mottram power drove home a free kick from just outside the box and shortly afterwards Micky Skirving gave them the lead when he shot home a pass from Mottram. The Manor then went into a 3-1 lead when a long clearance by Linneghan resulted in a Billingham player slicing his kick and the loose ball fell to Mottram who volleyed it into the net. The restart saw Billingham all out attacking and eventually they pulled one back through Steve Parkes but despite all their efforts the Manor's defence and their keepers saves denied Billingham of any chance of saving the game.
In the Kenny Ball Cup first round Billingham Town lost at home to Division Two leaders Hartlepool Catholic Club. Billingham lost 1-0 at the interval through a Tony Screen goal. The restart saw Pool's fight back, goals from, Bob Ramsay and David Boagey put them 2-1 in the lead and despite Billingham's efforts that score remained. Outstanding players were Jimmy Speight for Billingham and David Boagey and keeper Peter Robson for Pools.
Darlington Railway were in excellent form, they won 4-0 at home to West Cornforth. Leading 1-0 at half time they came good after the restart by slowly taking control and scoring three further goals. Marksmen were Chris McMasters, Stevie Hope, Dale Elegie, and Mark Lawrence.
Consett lost 3-2 at home to Wingate. Trailing 1-0 at the interval, they came back strongly after the restart, goals from David Scott and George Taylor put them 2-1 in the lead. However, in a grandstand finish Wingate levelled and then scored the winner two minutes from time.
Durham City Strollers had no luck, just the bare 11 players and then they lost Paul Allacker with a pulled hamstring and were down to ten players. It was 1-1 at half time but the handicap proved too much after the restart and they lost 5-2 to Crook Town. For Crook it was a good victory as they are a Division Four side and Durham are in the third.
Barnard Castle Glaxo lost 3-0 away to Touchdown Hotel. the first half ended goalless with the Castle missing several good chance. But after the restart it was the Touchdown who went ahead scoring three goals, courtesy of McMillan, Steve Franks and Hetherington and Castle regretting their missed chances and still looking a class side with stars Geoff Bannister and Kevin Hodgson.
Wynyard Old Boys lost 2-1 away to Winston. Trailing 2-0 at the interval they took over after the restart and bombarded Winstons good, but it was a story of great saves and near misses. Finally Ken Moody pulled one back but it was just too late.
In the Premier Ferryhill trounced Sunderland Catholic Club winning 8-1 at home and are level on points with Steels SC but have an inferior goal difference and so are in second place.
Langley Park Rams Head slipped up against Darlington Croft losing 6-2 at home. Darlington now move into second place and the Rams stay in fourth. A feature of the game was Ray Bradwell, the Ram's keeper who saved two penalties and Darlington's keeper saved one.
Newton Aycliffe still have to recapture their early season form. They lost 2-1 away to Wallsend Rising Sun.
