Billingham Bears came out on top in their English Under-16 North A league derby clash against Whitley Tomahawks at the Forum Ice Arena winning 8-1.
Paul Smith got them off to the perfect scoring at 04.16 and Daniel Hughes getting the equaliser after 14 minutes.
Liam Telfer back after competing a three match suspension hit a straight hat trick in six minutes with goals at 15.35, 1923 and 21.44. The second being a converted penalty shot in the 24th minute. Smith scored his second of the game with Bears short-handed.
Whitley came back at Billingham in the final period but could not find a way through Bears' netminder Richard Griffiths who made some fine saves from the 25 shots he faced. James Udell (2) and Ricky Box completed the scoring for bears in the final period.
Box on his debut after his move from Whitley Bay was Bears' man of the match.

Sunderland Arrows hosted Blackburn Eagles in an Under-16 Challenge at Telewest Arena. Arrows play in the B while Eagles are in the A League following promotion at the end of last season. Eagles scored once in each of the periods to win 3-0.
Whitley Mohawks played their best hockey of the season at Hillheads in English Under-14 North A against Nottingham Tigers. Nathan Taylor put Mohawks ahead after nine minutes and Tigers were level three minutes later. Mark Nicholson restored Whitley's lead in the final minute of the first period.
Andrew Wood increased Whitley's advantage on the powerplay at 17.33. Taylor and Nicholson each scored their second goals of the game in the final period for a 5-1 victory.

Billingham Falcons won their first Under-14 match of the season against Sheffield Sabres in a challenge match at Forum Ice Arena. Jay Hamsell and Daniel Birkbeck scored in as many minutes to give Falcons a 2-0 lead at 18.27.
Sabres pulled a goal back a minute later and Scott Cooper and Hamsell were on target for a 4-1 lead at the end of the second period. Sheffield netted a second at 32.10, the scoring was completed for Falcons with goals from Michael McCabe and Cooper.

Sunderland Commanches lost 3-0 to a Northern Conference Under-13 squad and a Commanches B squad slipped to a 16-1 defeat against Sheffield Stormers. Martin Thrimble was Sunderland's scorer.

Billingham Pumas were 11-4 victors over Coventry Blaze in English U12 North B League. Robert Heale gave Pumas the lead in the second minute. Thomas Bence and Scott Cooper drew level. Blaze cut the deficit just ten seconds into the second, but Pumas through Cooper Heale and Jonathan Galloway took them 6-2 ahead at 21.34. Cooper hit his hat trick marker before the end of the second period for a 7-03 lead.
Heale's third and a powerplay goal from Stephen Simcox added to Pumas tally before Blaze grabbed their fourth on 37 minutes.
Both Cooper and Heale recorded their fourth goals of the game before the end.

Sunderland Cherokees hosted Sheffield Stormers in Under-12 North A League. Sheffield unbeaten this season led 4-0 before Nathan Salem netted for Cherokees at 25.22 on the powerplay. Stormers scored six without reply in the final pe4riod for a 10-1 win.

Sunderland Cherokees squad met Telford Terrahawks in a friendly. Alex Lawson and Tom Ross gave Sunderland a 2-0 lead. Jack Watkins scored a third for a 3-2 lead after the first period.
Watkins and Lawson were on target to give Cherokees a 5-2 advantage at 31.31. Telford scored five times in seven minutes to go 7-5 ahead at 39.08. Christopher Watkins scored a sixth on 42.55 but Telford secured victory with an eighth at 43.15.

Sunderland Tomahawks were beaten 5-0 by Sheffield Steelhawks in English Under-19 North A League. Sheffield took a fifth minute lead and struck a second on the powerplay at 11.13.
Mark Lee in Tomahawks net kept Sheffield at Bay until 44-14 when they scored their third. Two further goals at 47.44 and 59.11 completed the scoring.
Guildford Lightning leaders of the women's premier league suffered a 3-2 home defeat at the hands of Sunderland Scorpions. Teresa Lewis hit the first of her three goals on the powerplay at 07.21. Lightning drew level and two minutes later Lewis tucked away her second goal of the game. Guildford drew level again only for Lewis to strike back immediately for the winner.

English Warriors had a deserved 5-3 victory over second placed Kingston Jets at Hillheads. Jets went a goal behind in the 19th minute through a Paul Graham strike. Kingston were on level terms in the 29th minute to regain the lead, Darren Taylor stroking on the powerplay.
Andrew Tindale and Neil Sainty traded goals and at 54.45 Bobby Bradley gave Warriors a 4-2 lead. With 56 seconds to go Jets scored to go within one of Whitley with a powerplay goal.
Jets pulled their netminder twice in that time and were caught once as Lee Baxter made sure with the empty net goal at 59.48.
