Prizes. - Judge Jeff Nutter of Fence, Burnley, awarded the Raymond Brown Memorial Cup for the champion beast, £10 donated by J & D Haigh and the Kirkby Stephen Tradesman Cup for the 1st prize heifer to Messrs AD & A Richardson, Low Bank End, Appleby whose Lim hfr sold for 230p/kg to Norman Park, Carlisle. Reserve went to a Lim blk presented by Messrs Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Ormside sold for 162p to R I Brown, butcher of Kirkby Stephen. GN Robinson Memorial Cup, beast from vendor within 6 miles of the mart, HW Birbeck, Castle Hill, Soulby, whose BB X hfr sold for 160p to N & J Dowding, butcher, The Arcade, Appleby.
In the sheep show, the class for Texel lambs 35 kg and over was sponsored by the Solway & Tyne Texel Breeders Club and 1st prize was awarded to GE Hunter, Beck Houses, Grayrigg, which later were awarded the Croglin Castle Perpetual Cup for the champion pen of lambs 35kg or over and sold for £68 per head to GA Slack, Hilton, Appleby; 2 M Watson, Blandswath, sold for £53.50, weighing 42 kg. Suffolk lambs: 1 FC Millican, Low Moor. Mule lambs: 1 HW & MA Alderson, Howgill Grange; 2 JB & GE Luck & Son, Milestone House. Horned lambs: 1 MM & EA Robinson, Low Farm; 2 HW & MA Alderson, Howgill Grange.
