QUAKERS fans will again be dreaming of FA Cup glory tomorrow as their team take on Stevenage in a second round tie at Feethams.
Darlington - who narrowly missed out on a third round clash with Newcastle United this time last year - should certainly be full of confidence after last Saturday's 2-1 win over Southend United.
The result maintained the momentum built up under caretaker manager Mick Tait and surely complacency is the only danger tomorrow.
Stevenage are struggling near the foot of the Nationwide Conference - although they did hold in-form Scarborough to a 1-1 draw last Saturday - and Quakers will be strong favourites to go into the hat for Sunday's third round draw.
They were good value for their victory over the Shrimpers, coping well with the absence of suspended skipper Craig Liddle.
Stuart Whitehead and Matt Clarke returned to the centre of defence after injury and suspension respectively, with Gary Pearson dropping to the bench.
He was joined by Ian Clark as Tait opted to play loan signing Richard Offiong alongside in-form striker Barry Conlon, who made a match-winning contribution against one of his former clubs.
Offiong, an England Under-20 player who arrived from Newcastle the day before, made a lively debut, but was much less effective than his experienced partner.
Conlon was immediately in the thick of the action, winning an eighth-minute penalty. But Clark Keltie, made skipper for the day, saw his spot kick saved by Southend keeper Darryl Flahaven.
Darlington went ahead shortly before half-time when Conlon reacted quickly in the box to slam the ball home, then the visitors spurned a golden opportunity to equalise early in the second half when Tes Bramble blazed a penalty high over the bar.
Eight minutes from time, Conlon released Ashley Nicholls down the left and the young midfielder curled a delightful shot into the opposite top corner.
Bramble found the net in injury time to give the Quakers fans a few anxious moments, but their side was in no mood to let the three points slip.
Tait has indicated his reluctance to change a winning team, hinting that Liddle may not be guaranteed an immediate recall, but Sunderland have refused permission for on-loan keeper Michael Ingham to play against Stevenage.
That means Chris Porter may be the club's only recognised goalkeeper available for tomorrow's game
