A 12-YEAR-OLD girl is in hospital after being struck by a hit-and-run driver who ran a red light.
Katie Scales, of Greenshaw Drive, Haxby, is the victim of one of four serious accidents to happen in as many days across North Yorkshire.
She suffered multiple fractures and facial injuries after being struck by the car on Wednesday night in Blossom Street, York. Police have been unable to trace the motorist, who was driving an N-registration black Fiat Punto.
Sergeant John Suchomski, of York Police, said: "I would encourage the driver, who will be aware he was involved in a collision, to contact the police."
Police would also like anyone on a First York bus at the traffic lights at the time of the collision, to call (01904) 631321.
Also in York, firefighters freed a man in his 20s yesterday when his Seat Ibiza collided with a Park and Ride bus in Naburn Lane.
And police have named two Ryedale men killed in accidents earlier this week. Andrew Popham, 34, of Spring Field Garth, Norton, died after his Suzuki was involved in a collision with a van on the A169 near Pickering.
Twenty-year-old Richard Ashley Corner, of Malton, died after his Ford Ka collided head-on with a Ford Mondeo on an unclassified road between Pocklington and Full Sutton on Monday evening.
