Darlington Harriers

Jack Mason defied injury to run a personal best time of 46.42 for fifth place at the Yorkshire Dragoon road race over 7.7 miles. The race was won in record time by Chester-le-Street's Martin Scaife.

Other Harriers to finish included Ron Read, ninth in 49.02, Ian Barnes, 31st in 53.27, and Steve Dauber, 104th in 68.31.

At the third NYSD cross country meeting took place at Thirsk, the Under-13 boys' event saw Jamie Rutherford finished eighth in 12.27.

Other times, Under-13 girls: Emma CLifford, 15th 13.51, Lauren Peacock, 16th in 13.51.

Under-17 men: Theo Panayi, 18th in 30.04, Robert Gibbon 19th in 30.21.

Under-17 women: Patsy Ryan, 34th in 26.27.

Senior women: Bernadettte Taylor, second in 21.49.

Senior men: Martin Grainger, 19th in 31.34, Ben Wilson 35th in 32.29, Steve Hutchinson, 60th in 34.45, Ron Read, 61st in 34.50, Brian Hannah, 116th in 38.84, Ian Barnes, 122nd in 39.15, Brian Hay, 127th in 40.25, John Brant, 153rd in 44.17. Team was third in Division two with 413 points. Martin Grainger is currently second in the Vet 1 category, and Ian Barnes leads the Vet 3 category.

At the Leeds Abbey Dash 10km race, Martin Grainger finished a commendable 44th in 33.50.

Other times: Ben Wilson, 81st in 35.08, Paul Kelly, 120th in 36.27, Jack Mason, 132nd in 36.46, Steve Hutchinson, 183rd in 37.39, Hon Lee, 218th in 38.29, Alison Raw, 238th 38.38, Emma Morley, 1123rd 49.33, Steve Dauber, 1,490th 53.02. There were 2,344 runners.

Quakers

Last month, Quakers celebrated the outstanding success of their under 15 boys cross country team by winning the Orange Sports Team Award which qualifies them to go forward to the grand final on December 10 at the Dolphin Centre, Darlington.

The team competing for the first time in the North Yorkshire and South Durham Cross Country League have won every trophy that they could possibly win in their age group.

Back in October 2001 the boys began their run of successes by winning the Darlington Harriers Trophy at the first meeting of the season, the cross country relays which were held on home ground at Darlington's Eastbourne Sports complex.

This was followed up over the next few months where over a span of six league meetings they recorded four first, one second and one third team finishes to be declared league champions and see them awarded the Norman Smith Trophy.

In addition to the team's success in the league, Luke Kelton took the under 15 boys individual championship title and Lewis Moses finished in the runner up spot.

The NYSD road relays meeting held at Locke Park in Redcar in March, the final event of the season saw the team take their last trophy where they finished in first, third and sixth team places in their race to receive the Friarage Arts Cup.

Quakers chairman Mike Horan said: "We are very proud of the boy's achievements, they are a credit to the club and to themselves and the success is well deserved after all of the hard work the boys have put in."

On Sunday, November 17, a good turnout supported the Lordstones-Wainstones fell race. In undulating and foggy conditions, Ken Maynard was first home for the club finishing seventh out of 112 runners in a time of 102:18.

The Quakers A team won the men's team prize with Quakers B team in eighth position.

On Sunday, November 24, the second NYSD X-Country was held at Thirsk Racecourse. In the Under 13 Boys race James Snook was first home in 19th position out of 25 runners finishing in 14:31.

Other Quakers: Ian Wilson 21st, 14:57; Richard Minto 23rd, 15:04; Wayne Kelly 25th, 15:51. The team finished fourth.

In the Under-13 Girls race Lauren Bowkett finished 22nd out of 41 runners in a time of 14:23 followed by Seraphina Kelvey-Brown, 37th, 16:28.

Simon Carter finished 15th out of 19 in a time of 16:32 in the Under 15 boys race. Abigail Wilson had a great run in the Under 15 Girls race finishing fourth out of 34 in a time of 16:02 followed by Alex Snook, 18th, 17:18 and Anna Tunstall, 23rd, 17:39. They picked up the third team prize.

The Under 17 Men also picked up third team place with Neil Robinson finishing fifth out of 23 runners in 24:05, David Llewellyn, 13th, 26:31, Alan Carter 23rd, 37:54. Dawn Richardson finished 10th out of 68 competitors in the Ladies race finishing in a time of 22:45 followed by Caroline Davies, 18th, 24:05, Denise Kelvey-Brown, 39th, 26:38 and Julie Giblin, 61st, 29:26. The team finished in 7th position.

In the Men's race Alasdair Tatham led as usual finishing ninth out of 157 runners in a time of 30:12.
